Not too far off the beaten path, this lake side ecosystem provides for a variety of animal sightings. There is a Metra stop nearby but when the train leaves it's all bird song, waves, and wind through the reeds.
Great walk and biking path! Now if it's kept up it be even better, I know I'll do my part as good path user keeping it clean and such!
This is the northernmost end piece of a nature trail system that meanders through the Illinois Beach State Park boundaries. It is a neat piece of the park because it cuts through the Spring Bluff Forest Preserve. Whether it's the wildlife or the beautiful natural prairie setting it has lots to offer and it's been vastly improved. It has a new observation tower.
I worked in this very area at SkipperBud's for 18 years. It's collocated on this expanse of property. We always saw fox, deer, mink, snapping turtles, geese, coyotes, all kinds of birds... Excellent!!! There's a Metra station not 10 minutes away by foot, a restaurant, The Tropics, which is seasonal and caters to the marina boaters but it's open to the public and a neat place to eat. Likely still open on the weekends for a few more weeks until the marina closes for the season on October 31st. At the West end of 7th Street at the intersection of 7th & Sheridan Road, there is a very good Mexican restaurant, a sports bar, West Marine store, etc.
It's pretty neat to be able to take a break from your hiking/biking trek and take a break at one eatery or another...all good choices! Excellent area!!!!!
This place is really a hidden gem. It’s a great mild hiking and bike riding trail for people of all ages. The sunsets are especially beautiful here. There is also beach access and plenty of hidden spots to off the trail to have a picnic & hammock.
Great place when you need to chill
